When I graduated from McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois, I thought about taking the path that most recent graduates took. It would have been so easy to take the comfortable paycheck and leave all responsibility at the door when I walk out at 5pm. That was not for me though. My desire to utilize my skills and personal characteristics to build a company serving others was greater than the appeal of working a normal day job for someone else. I was willing to jump into the fire with my fellow compadres to build Lakeside Home Solutions.
I have been incredibly fortunate that I have a great team with the knowledge in construction, contracting, and real estate that I needed for development. Each of us bring something unique to the table and that is what makes Lakeside Home Solutions so special. The more opportunities I have to utilize my strengths, and the more time I have to learn new skills from my team, the better we can serve our customers. That is what gets me out of bed in the morning. If I can be 1% more knowledgeable every day, gain a new skill each week, and have constant experiences that help me make better decisions in the future, I will truly become a better asset for every person around me. That is what it is all about. Building on your skills and utilizing your knowledge and God-given strengths will allow you to offer more to your employer, to your customers, and even to your friends and family.
They say do something that you love, and you will never work a day in your life. For me, I love building a better life for those around me. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a happy customer after making their dream renovation a reality. There is nothing better than building relationships with my team through sweat, tears, and a few laughs on the job site each day. The ultimate reward will be building a business where I can provide a good life for my family and teach them everything I have learned.
